Funding for fieldwork
With strong Asian language sources available both at the University and National Libraries, ANU could not have been a better place to engage in a study of the region. The strong sense of community within the Department meant that I could test out my ideas on my colleagues, and my many discussions with them continue to resonate with me long after graduation. ANU has given me a 'golden key' to open doors, both in terms of intellectual fields and career pathways.
Subject to yearly review, generous funding has been available for each student over the period of their candidature. Students must apply to the Head of Department who must approve the proposal before any fieldwork funding is allocated.
J. D. B. Miller reading room
The Department maintains its own library that subscribes to all major journals in the field of International Relations and the Asia-Pacific region.
Australia’s best libraries
The ANU Library system consists of several, world-class libraries: the Menzies Library, the Chifley Library, the Hancock Library, the Law Library, and the Arts and Music Library. As well, Canberra is home to the National Library of Australia and the National Archives of Australia.
Easy access to the Australian government and to Canberra’s diplomatic community
Canberra is also home to all Australian federal government departments and foreign embassies, high commissions, consulates, and multilateral missions.
Accommodation
Students can live on campus in new, dedicated postgraduate accommodation or student halls, or in private rental accommodation off campus. University Accommodation provides a variety of services to the ANU community to assist staff and students find accommodation.
